The fountains also of the deep, and the windows of heaven were stopped. וַיִּסָּכְרוּ, from סָכַר= סָגַר, to surround, to enclose; literally, were shut up; ἐ πεκαλυì φθησαν (LXX.). Their opening was described in .

And the rain from heaven was restrained. וַיִּכָּלֵא, literally, was shut up, from כָּלָא, to close. Cf. κλειì ω, κωλυì ω, κολουì ω, celo, occulo (Gesenius, Furst), συνεσχεì θη (LXX). At the end of the forty days; at the end of the 150 days (Aben Ezra, Murphy).
