God offers Abram exactly what Babel sought by its own effort — a great name — but gives it freely as a gift of grace in response to faith and obedience. The five-fold promise here (nation, blessing, name, be a blessing, all nations blessed) is the hinge of the entire Old Testament. Abram will become the father of the faith.

Talk about it: At Babel the people wanted to make their own name great. Abram trusted God and God made his name great. What is the difference?
