The pagan king becomes the moral voice in this story — rebuking God's chosen man. This is a pattern in Scripture: when God's people fail to live up to their calling, outsiders sometimes model higher standards. It is not a comfortable position for Abram — and perhaps that is exactly the point.
Memory phrase: God can use anyone to speak truth to us.
Talk about it: Pharaoh — who wasn't even one of God's people — had to tell Abram he was wrong! How do you feel when someone points out a mistake you made?
Prayer: God, help me be humble enough to receive correction — even from unexpected sources. Help me not be defensive when I am wrong.
