Proverbs 17:26

Proverbs 17:26

Justice requires that punishment track with guilt, not with other factors like social pressure, personal dislike, or the threat that a righteous person poses to the corrupt. To punish the innocent, or to harm a ruler for acting with equity and fairness, is a miscarriage of justice that God opposes. Righteous leaders and people must not be attacked for their righteousness.

Memory phrase: Never punish the innocent.

Talk about it: Why is it wrong to punish someone who did right?

Prayer: God, help me stand for what is right and fair.
