Proverbs 17:28

Proverbs 17:28

The final verse of the chapter makes the point with memorable irony: even a fool can appear wise by the simple discipline of silence. This is not an endorsement of deception, but an observation about the power of restraint — and a final sharp encouragement toward it. The inverse is equally true: much speech reveals much foolishness. The discipline of silence is available to everyone, even before wisdom is fully formed.

Memory phrase: Silence speaks wisdom.

Talk about it: Why does staying quiet sometimes show wisdom?

Prayer: God, help me know when to be quiet.
