This is one of Proverbs' most solemn warnings: abandoning the way of wisdom leads to death — spiritual and ultimately physical. The 'congregation of the dead' is a vivid description of those who have permanently departed from the living path. Departing from wisdom is not a neutral drift — it has a deadly destination.
Memory phrase: Stay on wisdom's path.
Talk about it: What happens when you wander too far from the safe path?
Prayer: God, keep me on the path of wisdom.
