The sluggard's excuse is absurd — a lion in the streets was vanishingly rare. Proverbs uses this to satirise how laziness inflates tiny obstacles into impossibilities. The lazy person always has a reason why today is not the day to begin. This is a pattern of avoidance dressed as caution.
Memory phrase: Stop making excuses.
Talk about it: What excuses do you sometimes use to avoid doing what is right?
Prayer: God, help me not to make excuses.
