The Shut Kitchen and the Open Door

Fasting isn't about emptying your stomach; it's about filling your spirit. Try a simple fast next week: Skip one meal (like lunch). Every time you feel a hunger pang during that hour, use it as an alarm clock to pray for someone. Turn down the noise to hear the Signal.

The Shut Kitchen and the Open Door "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do... but put oil on your head and wash your face." () "I humbled my soul with fasting." () Imagine you are trying to listen to a very quiet, important radio signal.

But you are standing in a room with a loud television, a barking dog, and people shouting. You cannot hear the signal. The problem is not that the signal is weak; the problem is that the room is too loud.

To hear the message, you must turn off the TV, silence the room, and focus. Your physical body is like that loud room. It is constantly shouting: "I am hungry! I am tired! I want sugar! I want comfort!"

This noise often drowns out the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit. Fasting is the discipline of turning down the volume of your body so you can hear the volume of your spirit. Fasting is voluntarily going without food for a spiritual purpose.

It is not a diet. It is not a hunger strike to force God to do what you want. It is a declaration. When your stomach growls during a fast, it is a reminder to pray. You are telling your body: "You are not the boss of me.

My stomach is not my god. I need Jesus more than I need this sandwich." If you never deny your body what it wants, your flesh will become a spoiled child that rules your life. Fasting teaches the body to obey the spirit.

Digging Deeper

(Tap to expand) Theologically, fasting is always paired with Prayer. If you skip a meal but you do not pray, you are not fasting—you are just starving. Jesus assumed His followers would fast. He said, " When you fast," not "If you fast."

There are different types of biblical fasts: Normal Fast: Abstaining from all food (but drinking water) for a set time (e.g., sunrise to sunset). Partial Fast (Daniel Fast): Eating only simple foods (vegetables/water) and avoiding meats and sweets ().

Media Fast: Abstaining from entertainment or social media to focus on God. (Great for beginners). The goal is not suffering; the goal is Focus . You are disconnecting from the world to reconnect with the Source.

Reflect on this: What controls you right now? If you missed lunch today, would you get angry or anxious? That reveals how much power your "belly" has over your mood. 👣 Take a Step Fasting isn't about emptying your stomach; it's about filling your spirit.

Try a simple fast next week: Skip one meal (like lunch). Every time you feel a hunger pang during that hour, use it as an alarm clock to pray for someone. Turn down the noise to hear the Signal.
