devotionEphesians 6:13The Armor of GodEphesians 6

The Riot Gear

Don't leave the house naked. Before you check your phone, physically "put on" the armor in prayer.

"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." ()Imagine a police officer waking up in the morning.

He is about to go into a violent riot zone where bricks and bottles are being thrown. He does not walk out the door in his pajamas. That would be suicide. He puts on his Kevlar vest. He puts on his helmet.

He puts on his heavy boots. He equips his shield. He doesn't put these things on because he likes wearing heavy gear. He puts them on because he acknowledges the reality of the environment he is entering.

The gear is what keeps him alive so he can do his job.In Ephesians 6, Paul commands us to put on the Armor of God.Notice that he doesn't say, "Ask God to put the armor on you." He says you must put it on.

It is an active choice you make every day. Most of the armor is Defensive . Why? Because the devil is the accuser. He throws fiery darts of doubt, shame, and temptation at you. The Belt of Truth: Holds everything together.

(Combats lies). The Breastplate of Righteousness: Protects the heart. (Combats guilt/shame). The Shoes of Peace: Gives you stability on slippery ground. (Combats anxiety). The Shield of Faith: Extinguishes the arrows.

(Combats doubt). The Helmet of Salvation: Protects the mind. (Combats hopelessness). The Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God. The only offensive weapon. You cannot fight a spiritual battle with physical strength (willpower).

You can only fight it by "wearing" Jesusβ€”His truth, His righteousness, and His peace.

Digging Deeper

(Tap to expand)Theologically, the key word in this passage is "Stand."Paul uses it four times."Stand your ground... and after you have done everything, to stand."Many Christians think Spiritual Warfare means constantly hunting for demons or screaming at the devil.

But the biblical posture is often simply Standing Firm.Jesus has already won the victory on the Cross (). He has already defeated the enemy. Our job is not to win the war (it's already won); our job is to hold the territory.

We stand on the victory Jesus provided and refuse to be moved by lies. The Missing Piece:There is no armor for the Back.If you run away in fear, you are exposed and vulnerable. The armor is designed for facing the enemy, not for retreating.

Reflect on this:Which piece of armor are you missing today? Are you anxious? You need the Shoes of Peace. Are you feeling guilty about past sins? You need the Breastplate of Righteousness (reminding yourself that you are righteous in Christ).

Are you believing lies? You need the Belt of Truth. The enemy always attacks the exposed area. πŸ‘£ Take a Step Don't leave the house naked. Action: Tomorrow morning, before you check your phone, physically "put on" the armor in prayer.

Touch your head: "Lord, I put on the Helmet of Salvation; protect my mind."
