"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:21) Imagine you are $100 Billion in debt. The bank is coming to take your house, your clothes, and your life.
You are hopeless. Then, a Billionaire walks in. He doesn't just pay your debt. He proposes a Trade . He takes your $100 Billion debt and puts it on his account. He takes his Infinite Wealth and puts it on your account.
Now, the bank looks at you and sees the Billionaire's wealth. The bank looks at the Billionaire and sees your debt. He goes to prison so you can go free. This is The Great Exchange . On the Cross, a literal swap happened.
Jesus didn't just carry your sin; He "became sin" (He took the bankruptcy). You didn't just get forgiven; you "became righteousness" (You got the wealth). When God looks at you now, He doesn't see a "forgiven sinner."
He sees the perfect credit score of Jesus Christ.
Digging Deeper
Theologically, this is Double Imputation . Our Sin to Christ: Isaiah 53 says, "The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." His Righteousness to Us: Philippians 3 says, "Not having a righteousness of my own...
but that which is through faith in Christ." It is unfair. It is scandalous. And it is the only way to be saved. Reflect on this: Do you walk around feeling "spiritually poor"? Stop it. You have the credit card of Jesus in your pocket.
You are righteous. Not because you are good, but because He is. ๐ฃ Take a Step Action: The Swap. When you feel guilty today, visualize the trade. Hand Jesus your "guilt." Watch Him hand you His "glory."
Say: "Thank you for the trade. I accept the riches I didn't earn."
