"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19) Imagine a busy courtroom.
Lawyers are arguing loudly. Witnesses are shouting. The crowd is whispering. It is total chaos. Then, the Judge raises a small wooden hammerβ The Gavel . Bang. "Order in the court!" Instantly, the noise stops.
What the Judge says next becomes the absolute law. If he says "Released," the prisoner walks free. If he says "Detained," the prisoner goes to jail. The Gavel decides what is permitted in the room and what is forbidden.
This is the power of Binding and Loosing . Jesus handed you the Gavel (He calls them the Keys). Binding means to forbid. You look at a situation (like sickness or division in your family) and say: "I forbid this to operate in my home.
It is illegal in God's Kingdom." Loosing means to permit or release. You say: "I release God's healing and peace into this situation." Many of us just sit in the courtroom of our lives watching the devil run wild.
Pick up the Gavel.
Digging Deeper
This introduces the idea of Legislative Prayer . We often pray "Devotional Prayers" (just telling God how much we love Him). That is beautiful and needed. But sometimes we must pray "Legislative Prayers" (enforcing the laws of God on earth).
The original Greek language in Matthew 16 actually translates to: "Whatever you bind on earth shall have already been bound in heaven." You are pulling Heaven's realities down to Earth. If sickness and hatred aren't allowed in Heaven, you shouldn't passively accept them on Earth.
Reflect on this: Is there chaos in your life that you have just surrendered to? Do you say things like, "Well, my family has always been anxious, I guess that's just how we are." Stop accepting it. You hold the Keys.
Close the door on the curse and open the door to the blessing. π£ Take a Step Action: Use the Keys. Walk through your home today and speak out loud to the atmosphere. "I bind the spirit of arguing in this living room."
"I loose the spirit of deep rest in this bedroom." It might feel strange at first, but do it anyway. The spiritual realm is listening.
