The Split House

There is no such thing as a 'secular job' for a Christian. Your desk is your altar. Your work is your worship. Tear down the wall between Sunday and Monday.

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus..." () Imagine a house with a thick brick wall running right down the middle. On the left side is the "God Room."

This is where you keep your Bible, your worship music, and your Sunday mornings. On the right side is the "Work Room." This is where you keep your laptop, your money, your boss, and your ambition. You assume God stays in the Left Room.

So, on Monday morning, you say "Goodbye, God," and you walk into the Right Room alone. This is the Great Lie of modern Christianity. We have split our lives into "Spiritual Things" (Prayer, Evangelism) and "Normal Things" (Emails, Sales, Plumbing).

But in the Bible, this wall does not exist. God is just as interested in how you write code as He is in how you sing hymns. Jesus spent 3 years in ministry. He spent 30 years as a carpenter. Did He stop worshiping God when He was building a table?

No. The table was His worship. If you think God only lives in the God Room, you are ignoring Him for 40 hours a week.

Digging Deeper

The Hebrew word for "Work" ( Avodah ) is exactly the same word used for "Worship." To God, your job and your prayer are the same thing. When you design a bridge that keeps people safe, you are worshiping the God of Protection.

When you clean a floor so it shines, you are worshiping the God of Order. You do not need to be a pastor to do "Full-Time Ministry." If you are a Christian, your desk is your altar. Reflect on this: Do you feel like your work is "second-class" compared to a missionary?

Stop apologizing for your job. God placed you in that office because there are people there who will never walk into a church. You are His representative behind enemy lines. 👣 Take a Step Action: Dedicate the Desk.

When you get to work tomorrow, before you turn on your computer, put your hand on your desk (or your tools). Pray: "Lord, this is Your station. I am Your employee. Help me glorify You with every email I send today."
