"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands." (2 Corinthians 5:1) Imagine you are on a camping trip.
You are staying in a Tent . Tents are useful for a few days. They are portable. They provide shelter. But tents are flimsy. A strong wind shakes them. The zipper breaks. The fabric tears. They are not designed to last forever.
If you spent a million dollars renovating your tent—installing marble floors, a heavy chandelier, and expensive art—you would be a fool. Why? Because it’s a tent. It is coming down next week. Your body is a Tent .
This world is a campsite. We spend so much energy trying to make the tent permanent. We stress about aging, we hoard money, and we act like we are staying here forever. But the zippers are breaking (sickness).
The fabric is tearing (aging). A disciple is not a camper who pretends the tent is a fortress. A disciple is someone who is ready to unzip the flap and move into the Building —the resurrection body that cannot break.
Digging Deeper
This is the doctrine of Glorification . We are not just "souls floating in clouds" forever. That is Greek philosophy, not Christianity. The Christian hope is Physical Resurrection . Just as Jesus walked out of the grave with a body that could eat fish but also walk through walls, you will get a "Building."
It is tangible. It is imperishable. It is fit for the New Earth. Groaning about your aging body is actually a spiritual instinct (2 Cor 5:2). Your soul knows it is currently under-housed. Reflect on this: How much of your anxiety comes from trying to "save the tent"?
(Fear of aging, fear of death, fear of losing stuff). Relax. You are moving to a better house. Stop trying to put a chandelier in a pup tent. 👣 Take a Step Action: The Mortality Meditation. Look in the mirror.
Find a wrinkle or a scar. Instead of critiquing it, touch it and say: "This is just the tent. It's supposed to wear out. My real house is waiting."
