"His work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each personβs work." (1 Corinthians 3:13) Imagine a contractor builds a house for you.
He uses wood, hay, and straw. It looks huge and impressive quickly. Another contractor builds a smaller house, but he uses gold, silver, and costly stones. Then, the Inspector comes. He doesn't bring a tape measure.
He brings a Flamethrower . He torches both houses. The "Wood, Hay, and Straw" house burns to ash instantly. The contractor is saved (he runs out), but he has nothing to show for his work. The "Gold and Silver" house stands.
It shines brighter in the heat. This is The Judgment Seat of Christ (The Bema Seat). This is not a judgment for your Sin (that was settled at the Cross). This is a judgment for your Service . Wood/Hay: Ministry done for ego, popularity, or with bad motives.
It looks big, but it is flammable. Gold/Silver: Ministry done for Jesus, in secret, with love. It might look small, but it lasts. One day, fire will touch your life. Only what was done for Christ will survive.
Digging Deeper
We must balance Grace and Reward . Salvation is a gift. You cannot earn it. Rewards are earned. The Bible speaks of "crowns" given to faithful servants. Many Christians will get to heaven "smelling like smoke" (1 Cor 3:15).
They are in, but they have zero rewards because they wasted their life on trivial things. A disciple lives for the "Well Done," not just the "Welcome In." Reflect on this: Look at your busy schedule this week.
How much of it is Hay? (Netflix, scrolling, impressing people, making money for money's sake). How much is Gold? (Loving people, serving the poor, prayer). If the fire came today, how big would your pile of ash be?
π£ Take a Step Action: The Fire Audit. Pick one activity you do "for show." Stop doing it. Pick one activity you can do "in secret" (Gold). Do it. Pray: "Lord, burn up the hay now, so I don't have to watch it burn then."
