The Garden City

"Then I saw 'a new heaven and a new earth'... I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God." (Revelation 21:1-2) How does the Bible begin? In a Garden (Eden). How does the Bible end?

In a City (New Jerusalem). Imagine a Garden. It is natural, God-made, beautiful. Imagine a City. It is cultured, man-made (buildings, art, community). The story of the Bible is not that we "fly away to heaven" and leave earth behind.

The story is that Heaven comes down to Earth . God restores the world. The End is not a blank white room with harps. The End is a Garden City . It has the nature of Eden (Tree of Life, River). It has the culture of the City (Gates, Architecture, Nations).

This validates your work now . Because we aren't just waiting for the destruction of the earth; we are waiting for its Restoration . The best music, the best architecture, the best culture—it will be redeemed and purified in the New City.
