The Oxygen Mask

People say it’s narrow-minded to believe Jesus is the only way to Heaven. But if you’re on a crashing plane, pointing to the only oxygen mask isn’t arrogant—it’s love.

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" () Imagine you are on an airplane that loses cabin pressure at 30,000 feet. The masks drop down.

The pilot announces: "Please put on the yellow oxygen mask to survive." Would you stand up and scream, "That is so arrogant! Why is the yellow mask the only way? I want to breathe my own way! I want to breathe the carpet!"

No. That would be completely foolish. In a life-or-death crisis, being specific is not intolerance; it is Salvation . If there is only one source of oxygen, the kindest thing the pilot can do is tell you exactly where it is.

The world calls Christianity "narrow-minded" because Jesus claimed to be the Only Way . But Jesus isn't trying to be mean or exclusive. He is diagnosing a fatal condition (Sin) and offering the only working cure (His Blood).

If all religions lead to God, then Jesus died a horrible death for absolutely no reason. But if He is the only oxygen mask for a dying human race, then pointing people to Him is the most loving thing you can possibly do.

Digging Deeper

Truth, by definition, is exclusive. 2+2=4. That truth excludes the answer "5." To say "Every religion is true" is logically impossible, because they teach opposite things. Do not apologize for the narrowness of the door to Heaven.

Just make sure you are standing there holding it wide open for everyone to enter. Reflect on this: Do you shy away from telling people that Jesus is the only way? Are you afraid of offending your friends?

Remember: A doctor who knows the cure for cancer but refuses to share it because he doesn't want to offend other doctors is not "tolerant." He is guilty. 👣 Take a Step Action: The Bold Invitation. You don't have to be rude; just be clear.

Pray for one non-believer you know today. Pray: "Lord, they are suffocating without You. Give me the boldness to show them where the Oxygen is."
