"It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation." (Romans 15:20) Imagine a map of the world at night. Most of it is filled with bright city lights.
These represent places with churches, Bibles, and Christians. But there is a massive section of the map that is pitch black. These are the Unreached People . It is not that they rejected Jesus; it's that they have literally never heard His name.
There are no churches in their city. There are no Bibles in their language. The Apostle Paul had one major ambition: To go to the Blank Spots. He refused to stay in the comfortable cities where there were already ten churches on every corner.
He wanted to go where there was total darkness. We often spend all our time and money moving Christians from one nice church to a slightly cooler church down the street. God cares deeply about the Blank Spots.
The 99: The sheep safely inside the fence (The Reached). The 1: The sheep lost in the wild (The Unreached). If you have a Global Heart, you cannot be satisfied just keeping the lights on in your local building.
You have to care about the billions who have zero access to the truth.
Digging Deeper
This is the Great Imbalance of modern missions. The vast majority of Christian money and missionaries go to places that already have a strong Christian presence. Very few go to the unreached. We are building hundreds of lighthouses on the exact same safe beach, while the rest of the rocky coastline is left entirely in the dark.
Reflect on this: Look at how you spend your money and your prayers. Does it all go toward keeping the 99 sheep comfortable? A healthy disciple feeds their local family, but they also care for the starving people on the frontier.
👣 Take a Step Action: Adopt a People Group. Go online to a site like Joshua Project. Find one "Unreached People Group." Write their name down. Pray for them for 1 minute every day this week: "Lord, send a light to these people."
