The Pulled Bow

"He made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver." (Isaiah 49:2) Imagine an arrow. It wants to fly. It wants to hit the target. It wants to be useful. But before it can fly forward, it must be Pulled Backward .

The Archer grabs the arrow and pulls it away from the target. To the arrow, this feels like a retreat. "Hey! The target is that way! Why are you pulling me backward? I'm going in the wrong direction!"

But the arrow doesn't understand physics. The farther it is pulled back, the more Potential Energy is stored. The backward motion is exactly what creates the forward power. You might feel like you are being pulled back right now.

A career setback. A financial loss. A delay in your plans. You feel like you are losing ground. But in God's hands, Setbacks are Setups . He is loading you into the bow. He is stretching you. He isn't stopping you; He is aiming you.

When He finally releases His fingers, you will fly farther than you ever could have with your own strength.

This is the season of The Quiver . Jesus spent 30 years in obscurity (The Quiver) for 3 years of ministry (The Flight). God loves to hide His best arrows. He polishes them in the dark. If you are hidden right now, don't despise it.

Being in the Quiver means you are close to the Archer. Reflect on this: Does your life feel full of tension? Does it feel like you are going backward? Stop struggling against the Archer's hand. Relax into the stretch.
