"You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water." (Psalm 63:1) Imagine you are sitting at a banquet with unlimited soda, juice, and tea.
You sip a little here, a little there. You aren't really thirsty. Now, imagine you are lost in the Sahara Desert . You haven't had a drop of liquid for two days. Your lips are cracked. Your throat is burning.
Suddenly, you find a muddy puddle of brown water. To the person at the banquet, that puddle looks gross. To the person in the desert, that puddle looks like Life . Revival begins with Desperation . God promises to pour water on the thirsty (Isaiah 44:3).
He doesn't promise to pour it on the "full." If you are bored with God, it is because you are "snacking" on the world. You are full of Netflix, full of hobbies, full of success. You have no appetite for God because you have ruined your dinner with junk food.
The desert is a gift. It strips away the snacks until you realize: "I don't just 'like' God; I will die without Him."
Digging Deeper
Hunger is a sign of health. Dead people aren't hungry. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled" (Matthew 5:6). If you have no desire to pray, do not try to "force" the feeding.
Instead, ask: "What am I snacking on?" Fast from the world (the snacks) for 24 hours, and your spiritual hunger will roar back to life. Reflect on this: On a scale of 1 to 10, how thirsty are you for God right now?
If you are a 2, itβs because you are satisfied with earth. God often leads us into a "Dry Season" just to make us thirsty again. Don't waste the desert. π£ Take a Step Action: The Hunger Fast. Skip lunch today.
When your stomach growls, let it be an alarm. Pray: "Lord, I want You more than I want this burger. Make me thirsty again."
