After Jesus finished teaching on the mountain, huge crowds of people followed Him down. Everyone wanted to be near Jesus.
A man with a terrible skin disease came to Jesus, kneeled down, and said, 'Lord, I know You can make me well — if You want to.' He trusted Jesus completely.
Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man — nobody else would touch a leper! Jesus said, 'Yes, I want to. Be clean!' And right away the man was completely healed.
Jesus told him, 'Don't go around telling everyone just yet. First, go show yourself to the priest and bring the offering God's law requires — that will be a witness to them.'
When Jesus arrived in Capernaum, a Roman army captain came to Him and urgently asked for help. This soldier commanded one hundred men — but he came humbly to Jesus.
The soldier said, 'Lord, my servant is at home, completely paralysed — he is suffering terribly.' He cared deeply about his servant, even though servants were often treated as unimportant.
Jesus answered right away, 'Yes, I will come and heal him.' Jesus never hesitates to help when someone comes to Him with faith.
The soldier said, 'Lord, I am not good enough for You to come to my house. But just say the word from here, and I know my servant will be healed.' This was amazing faith!
The soldier explained, 'I understand authority. When I give orders, soldiers obey. So I know that when You speak, everything obeys You — even sickness!' He understood who Jesus really was.
When Jesus heard the soldier's words, He was amazed! Jesus told the crowd, 'I tell you the truth — I have not found anyone in all of Israel with faith as great as this man's!'
Jesus said, 'People will come from all over the world — from every direction — and they will sit at the feast in God's kingdom with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.'
But Jesus warned that those who should have known better — and rejected Him — would be left outside in darkness, full of sadness and regret.
Jesus told the soldier, 'Go home. Because you believed, it has been done.' And at that very moment — miles away — the servant was completely healed.
Jesus went to Peter's home and found Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a bad fever. Jesus noticed her need right away.
Jesus took her hand, and the fever left immediately. She got up — completely well — and began serving everyone. Healing led straight to helping others!
That evening, people brought many sick and troubled people to Jesus. He healed every single one. He spoke with authority and every dark spirit had to leave.
This fulfilled what the prophet Isaiah had written long ago: 'He Himself carried our weaknesses and bore our sicknesses.' Jesus was the One Isaiah had been talking about all along!
Jesus saw the huge crowds around Him and decided it was time to cross to the other side of the lake. He knew when to go and where to go next.
A teacher of the law came to Jesus and said enthusiastically, 'Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go!' He sounded very sure of himself.
Jesus replied, 'Foxes have dens and birds have nests — but I, the Son of Man, have no home to sleep in.' Jesus was telling him: following Me is not an easy or comfortable life.
Another follower said, 'Lord, let me first go home and take care of burying my father.' He wanted to follow Jesus — but after he had handled something important first.
Jesus said to him, 'Follow Me. Let those who are spiritually dead take care of the dead. You — come and live.'
Jesus got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. They were learning: wherever Jesus goes, we go too.
Suddenly a huge storm hit the lake! The waves were crashing over the boat. But Jesus — was asleep. Completely at peace in the middle of the storm.
The disciples ran to Jesus and woke Him up, crying, 'Lord, save us — we are going to die!' They were terrified, but they knew exactly where to go.
Jesus said, 'Why are you afraid? Where is your faith?' Then He stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves — and everything became perfectly still. Instant calm.
The disciples were amazed and kept asking each other, 'Who IS this? Even the wind and the waves do what He says!' Jesus has power over everything.
When they reached the other shore, two men who were controlled by dark spirits came out from the graveyard. They were so frightening that nobody dared walk on that road.
The evil spirits inside them cried out, 'What do You want with us, Jesus, Son of God?! Have You come to punish us before the right time?' Even the demons knew exactly who Jesus was.
Not far away, a large herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside. This detail will matter in a moment.
The evil spirits begged Jesus, 'If You drive us out, at least let us go into those pigs!' Even the demons had to ask Jesus for permission. Jesus is in charge of everything.
Jesus simply said, 'Go.' The evil spirits left the men and went into the pigs — and the whole herd rushed off the cliff into the lake and drowned. Jesus had won completely.
The pig farmers ran back to town and told everyone what had happened — both about the pigs and about the two men who had been set free.
The whole town came out to find Jesus — and then they asked Him to leave. They were more worried about their pigs than they were excited about the men who had been set free.
