Abram's wealth is noted as a statement of God's blessing materialised. In the ancient world, cattle, silver, and gold covered the three main categories of wealth: livestock, precious metal currency, and jewellery/bullion. Abram is a wealthy man. But this wealth will immediately create a problem — in the next verse, we discover that Lot is also wealthy, and the land cannot hold them both.
Memory phrase: Blessing carries responsibility — handle it wisely.
Talk about it: Being very rich sounds wonderful — but in the very next verse it causes a problem. Can you think of ways that having a lot can sometimes make things harder?
Prayer: God, whatever You bless me with — help me hold it wisely and generously, for Your glory and others' good.
