Lot's wealth is introduced here to set up the conflict in the following verses. He had travelled under Abram's call, benefited from Abram's blessing, and grown wealthy alongside his uncle. Two large households, two large flocks — and not enough land. This tension will require a decision about who trusts God and who relies on his own eyes.
